Sri Lanka Guardian: Time to tame real betrayals

Sri Lanka Guardian: Time to tame real betrayals

This is a moving appeal. I'm not a great liker of General Fonseka, but the fact is that this country has set up a kangaroo court merely because the man contested the Presidency.

Fonseka may have done many wrongs. A man in his position - commander of an army fighting a ruthless organisation - would. The family may have made much out of arms deals.

But also 4 million people voted for him (I didn't). Parliamentary elections are only weeks away. He is contesting and leading a Party. What is being done to Fonseka is just not fair. And every Sri Lankan will have to pay for it when sanctions are applied against the country. The President and family have become the rulers and will do well, in the short term. But such regimes usually end in bloody revolutions.

Beware the Ides of March!
